All about face

The challenge at That's Crafty is All About Face.  I used the "Windows to the soul"  stamp by Donna Downey for the face and masked it.  I then used DecoArt Media Misters, in layers with stencils, before the last layers I makes 6 circles with punched card and painted over the stenciling with a mix of paints and DecoArt Neon paints so the stenciling could show through.  I wanted to keep the face fairly plain to balance the busy background and coloured with water colour pencil and neon pink lips.

Avery 2

Another experiment using the Avery stamp by Donna Downey, this time on acrylic paper using acylic paint, stamping and rub-ons sort of Christy Tomlinson style.  I extended the stamp  by drawing a longer body. I am entering this into the That's Crafty All About Face challenge.

Avery 1

I have been experimenting using the same stamp in different substrates and with different mediums.  The stamp is Avery by Donna Downey Studios and here I have used Brusho in the background on water colour paper and acrylic paints on the face. I changed some of the features on the face to give this finish.I am entering this into the Thats Crafty Challenge  All About Face

Vintage Mirror

This started life as one of those plain mirrors from Ikea.  The colour is Viva Gold in Lava Green and Old Gold mixed, the damask feature on the left is Gold Ferro through a Crafters Workshop stencil and in the right hand corner a range of embellishments including a face made with air dry clay in a mould, wood clock by Prima, pearls etc  etc which have been tinted with Gilding Wax.  I am entering this in the That's Crafty challenge Anything Vintage.

A Card!

It is rare for me to make a card but it was hubbies birthday so out came some brusho and Stamps by Donna Downey for a simple and clean card.

Rusty Mug

The challenge at Artist Trading Post is "Any Old Iron" I have selected to rust up a cup and saucer using paints and rusting solutions.  Not sure I would want to drink from it though!

Quieter

The challenge at Thats Crafty is to use Hot and Spicy colours my journal page features red, orange,yellow and pink in the background along with Memory Box stencil Drip Rings.  The main image stamp is by Dina Wakley stamp and the phrase by Donna Downey.

Everything has Beauty

The challenge at Stampotique is to use favourite colours.  Here I have used shades of blue, teal and turquoise to create my background.  The feature stamps are Monster by Roc Nicholas and Beauty Verse by Jo Capper-Sandon.

Bird Silhouette

An A4 canvas worked with Amserdam paints, the leaves and bird are Donna Downey foam stamps for Prima stamped in paint.  I am entering this into the current That's Crafty Challenge "Stamping Ground"

Rusted Iris

This is for the current That's Crafty Challenge Stamping Ground  and Countryview Challenge "Word Play" The background is brusho sprinkled and wooshed and the stamp is by Penny Black with green and purple ink, the saying is Stampotique Originals

Butterfly Tag

The new Tag Along challenge is  #52 Butterflies my entry is a bit different for me in that I have left white space.  The background is brusho , the Iris stamp is by Penny Black and the butterfly is Unity stamped onto more brusho'd paper

I am more than what you see

This is an A4 canvas the flower and background are inspired by Donna Downey and the quote is by Donna Downey for Unity Stamps.  I have to confess I am pretty pleased with the flower never painted one before but Donna's technique makes it so easy to do.  I am entering this into the Thats Crafty Stamping Ground challenge and the Country View Challenge Word Play  .

Ice Maiden

Another piece for Thats Crafty Christmas in July challenge.  The background is dripped Gelatoes, the main face is Falling Deep stamp by  Donna Downey for Unity and the snowflakes a Marianne Creatables die.  I have added bits of crackle, beadazzles, stickles and whatever came to hand!.

3 Jolly Santas

Christmas in July is the theme over at the That's Crafty challenge.  I've made three variations on  theme. The first has a Tim Holtz stamp coloured with Letraset Markers, the middle one has a poinsettia flower from a serviette decoupaged (old stlye ie flat) in the background and the one on the right has the same Tim stamp but stamped over Distress Paints.

This tag is for Tag Along #47 Bright Sunny Colours.  My background is finger painting with acrylic paints and Portfolio Oil Pastels.  The Collage is by Art, Tea, Life

Rusted Mirror

This started life as one of those plain wood mirrors from a well known Swedish interiors shop. I attacked it with paint to create the rusted / verdigris look.  The embellishments are made from clay and moulds or are metal charms also rusted.  Along the bottom corner I have used Grunge Paste through a Dylusions stencil then highlighted it with Gilding Wax.  I am entering this into the That's Crafty Masks, Stencils and Templates Challenge

I Know

The current theme at Sunday Postcrad Art is "Bird People".  This card started out with some gelli printing I wasn't keen on and I went over it testing some opalescent paint for brayeriness (not a real word I know) , and likes the result.  The collage is a mix of Crowabout Studios and Art,Tea Life.

I made this piece for the That's Crafty Challenge "It's all about texture" The main  stamp is Athena by Carabelle Studios, and I've used Grunge paste through the Dylusions Chequered Dots stencil to make the raised circles, background colour is a mix of Gelatos and Portfolio water soluble oil pastels.  background stamps are by Stampotique Originals.

The Crafty Individuals challenge for June is "Tag you're it"  This is my interpretation of the brief which says "something within your entry vaguely resembles a tag".  The background is paints and stencils and the image is the Crafty Individual stamp CI-402 Just Be My Friend.

Tick Tock

The theme over at the the Tag Aong Challenge is No 40 Tick Tock, here is my effort.  Background is paints and stencils and the images are Zetti stamps with a little Zetti collage paper.

Take Flight

The challenge at Thats Crafty Its all About Texture challenge is to use texture in the work.  This tag had Gesso applied which I scribbled into and generally messed around as it dried to give texture.  The colour comes from oil pastels and the collage image from I no longer know where, it was in my stash.

To the Lighthouse

The challenge at Tag Along this week is #39 Lighthouses here is my interpretation.  Background is layers of paint and stamping with collage images from a mix of places no longer remember where!

The challenge this week over at Tag Along is #29 Gypsy.  I've  chosen to theme my tag on the great burlesque star Gypsy Rose Lee. 

Drama Queen

This tag is an entry for the Tag Along challenge No 28 Kings and / or Queens.

The face is from Catslife Stamps "Princess Head"  and Drama Queen stamp is also Catslife Press.  The rest is paint, a bit of collage and load more paint!

My Favourite Pet

The challenge at Sunday Postcard Art is "My Favorite Pet".  I could not chose one favorite so have chosen to use both my hairy babies, Paddy a Jack Russel / Border Collie cross and Minnie a Patterdale Terrier.  I cut a 6 x 4 piece of canvas which then  had paint, ink, stamps, screen, rub ons and anything I could lay my hand on thrown at it! My painting of the dogs is far from expert but I think it catches their playfulness.

Blue Heart

The challenge over at Sunday Postcard Art is My Heart is Blue for You.  To me this brings to mind loss and unrequited love.  his poor wee chap is in tears over his unattainable lady who wears her blue heart as a crown.  I started with random stamping on a card then a layer of watery gesso, it should be possible to just spot the stamping through the gesso.  Next came collage form Iitkupilli.

Pink Love

The challenge this week at Tag Along is #24 "Pink Love"  for me that means a young and sweet love like these two sweethearts.  The main stamps are by Stampotique Originals, the tag has been coloured, stampeed and embossed,

Bella Piccolo Pierette

The theme over on Sunday Postcard Art is Italy, my take on the theme is a little pierette, the female version of Pierot from the Commedia dell'arte (not to be confused with a Belgian detective).  The back ground is inks with masks and stamping.  The image is by Iitkupilli. 

The Bird has Wings

The Tag Along #23 Challenge is "Favourite Technique".  This tag has been made using my favorite gesso ressist with ink over mask background.  The wee birdy is by Stampotique Originals, I love the way you can use this bird flying in both directions.

This postcard is for the Sunday Postcard Art challenge "Faces".  I have used texture paste and spray inks.   The image is from an old magazine advert and the quote is Oscar Wilde, of course!
